Bartolomeus Capetillo

@bartolomeus_iso400

Bartolomeus has been photographing for a long time, using old analog cameras he received from his father, and he often captures subjects that others might overlook. Besides photographing unusual things, he also enjoys selecting photos that others often discard. Many of his photos thus become a series of "unwanteds." In an era of social media, with perfect filters and digital cameras that perfectly recreate reality as we see it, Bartolomeus' photographs are a reaction against our "perfect" society. The imagery resulting from his grainy, blurry, and sometimes incorrectly exposed photos creates a new reality. A reality with new details that emerge the longer one observes the photograph. It might be a door that shouldn't exist or a hand knocking on an already open door. Bartolomeus enjoys the freedom that comes with analog photography; there’s no opportunity for a retake. He describes it as a bit like fumbling in the dark and hoping that God guides him in the right direction.
