Size (image and frame): 50×50 cm including Nielsen Metal Black Frame
Location: Stockholm, Vasagatan
This fine art print is selected from the series “Fade to Black” by Martina Holmberg.
With an old Polaroid camera, photographer Martina Holmberg preserves memories and fleeting impressions. Moments often pass as soon as the film emerges from the camera, freezing snapshots of life, the small events, and circles that close. A bird dies, a flower blooms, winter turns to summer, and most things happen quietly in stillness.
The Polaroid film Fade to Black has a life of its own, continuing to develop for 24 hours after the moment of capture. The blue tones shift to yellow and brown, eventually transforming into black. By opening the film and exposing it to water or air, the process can be halted at any moment, preserving the colors at that point in time. The expression of the image can be influenced to a large extent, but it can never be entirely controlled.
